Daily brief (9/27): Top picks from the Springfield media

Hazardous outlook expects storms will  have occasional cloud to ground lightning and small hail.

Friday brings another 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a high near 73 and a low around 60.

Saturday and Sunday will be partly sunny, with a high near 75 and a low around 52.

The weekend is difficult to predict as many models are now back to having some showers early Saturday before things clear out later in the day.  Much of the weekend will be nice with highs in the middle 70s.  The pattern will change after this current system moves out.  Drier weather is expected much of next week.

  • New-Leader: Legendary  singer dies in Branson. Friends say Andy Williams move to Ozarks changed entertainment landscape. The singer and performer died Tuesday night at his home in Branson. He was 84. A statement from the Shefrin Company, a public relations firm, said he had battled bladder cancer for a year. (Other coverage: KSPR, OzarksFirst, KY3)
