Daily brief (8/2): Top picks from the Springfield media

There’s a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. today. Otherwise, it will be mostly sunny and hot, with a high of 99.

A chance of rain remains for tomorrow as well, although it will be another hot one with a high around 100. Saturday will be hot and dry, but another chance of rain enters the forecast Sunday.

It’s also official: This July was the driest on record — and the fourth hottest — for Springfield.

  • KSMU: Sales-tax holiday this weekend in Missouri.Shoppers this weekend won’t have to pay sales tax on certain school-related items such as computers, clothing, and supplies.
  • KSPR: Salvation Army gets help from local growers. Growers with the Greater Springfield Farmers’ Market are contributing some of their wares to the Salvation Army to help the food pantry.
  • KY3: Fire destroys Taney County condominium complex.The Majestic Condominiums complex on Table Rock Lake near Branson burned through the night, and several people lost everything. No injuries were reported. (Other coverage: News-Leader)
