Daily brief (7/30): Top picks from the Springfield media

The National Weather Service has extended a heat advisory for the Ozarks until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Today’s highs will be well above the 100-degree mark, with a high of 104 expected. Though there’s a 20 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms after 1 p.m., it will be another sunny, hot day for the region.

Tomorrow will be another hot one, with a high of 102. A slight chance of rain returns tomorrow afternoon, but most of the week looks hot and dry. Highs will hover around the 100-degree mark.

  • KY3: Free immunization clinics available for students.The first of five free immunization clinics for students in Springfield Public Schools will be at 9 a.m. today at Central High School (North Jefferson Avenue and Central Street).
  • News-Leader: Heart screenings not required for babies. Springfield hospitals are screening babies for heart problems and defects to prevent issues later in life. But such screenings currently are not required in Missouri.
  • KSPR: Undeveloped Branson tract to be auctioned today.Part of the Indian Ridge Resort in Branson will be sold at an auction at 1 p.m. today at the resort site (10054 W. Highway 76).
  • KSPR: Price Cutter parent company headed to new headquarters. Pyramid Foods, which owns the 11 Price Cutter grocery stores in the Springfield area, will move its headquarters from South Barnes Avenue to a 50,000-square-foot building in eastern Greene County.
