Today will be sunny and hot, with a high near 99.

A very small chance of rain with a heat advisory which remains in affect for the weekend. Tomorrow, the temperature will be 99 degrees and Sunday’s temperature creeps up to 101.  The weekend will be sunny and hot turning partly cloudy in the early evening.

  • [Election]News-Leader: District 136: Rivals eye future for children. Glendale graduate Kevin Austin and Kickapoo grad Ken Boyce will face off Aug. 7 for the Republican nomination for the District 136 seat in the Missouri House. The winner will be unopposed in the Nov. 6 general election for the right to succeed Rep. Charlie Denison, R-Springfield.
  • [Election]Ky3: Springfield hosts gathering of Mo. Republican Candidates.All major candidates will be in Springfield on Saturday at the Springfield Expo Center, 835 E. Saint Louis Street.  Admission is free.  A $10 charge for lunch includes an address by Barry Goldwater Jr., a former California Congressman.
  • KSPR:Fire near Ash Grove burns roughly 70 acres.   A short circuit from an electrical substation caused a spark which ignites a brush fire burning roughly 70 acres in an area near U.S. Hwy. 160 and Farm Road 43. Crews from Everton, Bois D’Arc, Willard, Ash Grove and Walnut Grove had the fire contained at roughly 11:30 a.m. (Other coverage: OzarksFirst)
  • OzarksFirst: Ceremonial Steel Beam Placed Atop Mercy Orthopedic Hospital. The 4-story orthopedic hospital opens this fall with 10 operating rooms, 48 beds, and an emergency department at  Highway 65 and Evans Road.
