Daily brief (7/9): Top picks from the Springfield media

Today will be mostly cloudy, with thunderstorms likely. We’ll also get a break from the heat, as the high will be below 90 for the first time in days; 87 is the expected high.

Storms moved through some areas yesterday as well, with at least three counties experiencing some wind damage.

The clouds will clear by tomorrow. The rest of the week will be mostly sunny, and highs will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

  • KY3: Joplin to hear master-plan proposal. Wallace-Bajjali Development Partners of Texas will present an $800 million plan to the Joplin City Council today. The project includes plans for a senior housing complex and a performing-arts center. (Other coverage: KSPR)
  • News-Leader: School district employees to get 1 percent raise. The Springfield School Board tonight will review a 1 percent raise for all of the district’s 3,900 employees that was negotiated over the past few months.
  • OzarksFirst: Portion of Boonville Avenue to be closed. Boonville Avenue in downtown Springfield from Court to Division streets will be closed beginning today for sidewalk and streetscape work.
