Daily brief (5/6): Top picks from the Springfield media

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high of 87. A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is possible, mainly after 4 p.m.

Tonight, thunderstorms are likely, and some storms could be severe. Up to a half inch of rain is possible, and more rain is expected Monday. It will be mostly cloudy but cooler, with a high of 72. The storms will make way for a nice week, though, with highs in the low 70s.

  • OzarksFirst: Police still looking for shooter in Saturday afternoon homicide. Javon Carter, 20, was killed Saturday after being shot in the face and arm in the 1100 block of South Maryland Avenue near the Missouri State University campus. Authorities — who said the shooting did not appear to be a random act — stopped two cars that were leaving the house after the shooting, but the shooter was not believed to have been in one of the cars.   • News-Leader: Table Rock Lake gears up for summer season. Lake levels have returned to normal at Table Rock Lake, compared with last spring’s record highs, and the boaters are ready to return.
  • KSMU: Grand opening of Drury on C-Street scheduled. Drury on C-Street (233 E. Commercial St.) will hold its grand opening Thursday. The location has an area for architecture classes, a fiber-arts studio, a business resource center, and an art gallery. (Other coverage: OzarksFirst)
