Daily brief (3/4): Top picks from the Springfield media

Today will be mostly sunny and warmer, with a high of 61. Winds will be strong, gusting up to 37 mph.

The National Weather Service has issued a red-flag warning effective through 6 p.m. today for most of the Ozarks, including Greene, Christian, Webster, and Polk counties. Wind and humidity conditions are ripe for outdoor fires to spread out of control.

Skies will remain clear tonight, and the temperature will dip back below freezing to a low of 30.

Tomorrow will be another sunny day, and the high is expected to hit 58. Tuesday will pop back up into the upper 60s, but a chance of thunderstorms moves back into the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.

  • OzarksFirst: Roseann Bentley named St.Pat’s Parade marshal.Former state Sen. Roseann Bentley has been named grand marshal of the annual St. Pat’s Parade in Springfield, which is scheduled for March 17.
  • News-Leader: Springfield prepared to roll with natural gas. The city of Springfield, City Utilities, and Greene County are building an $850,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) facility to fuel CNG vehicles, and private CNG vehicles will be able to use the station as well.
