Daily brief (2/11): Top picks of the Springfield media

Today will be one of the coldest of the season. Though it will be sunny, the high will be 23, and a stiff wind with gusts of up to 22 mph could bring the wind chill down as low as -2.

Tonight’s low will dip to 5 degrees, with wind-chill temperatures down to -2.

Tomorrow will be another clear, cold day, with a high of 31. But snow is likely tomorrow night, with up to a quarter inch of precipitation between Sunday night and Monday. The low tomorrow night is expected to dip to 25.

A mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected Monday, but it should be the last of the wintry blast, with snow and sub-freezing temperatures ending by Tuesday.

Today’s picks

  • News-Leader: E-Verify voting pattern shows doughnut of support. Central Springfield had the most “no” votes for Springfield’s ordinance requiring businesses to check employees’ citizenship status with the federal E-Verify program. (Other coverage: OzarksFirst)
  • KY3: Two new facilities could boost convention business. Ramada is expanding its Oasis Hotel and Convention Center in north Springfield, and Bass Pro Shops is putting the final touches on its White River Conference Center at its main location at Sunshine Street and National Avenue.
  • KSPR: Ozarks job forecast good, but more needed in Taney County. Despite a good outlook for the area, Taney County is still seeing increases of residents on public assistance.
