  • News-Leader: Greene County finalizes budget. After much maneuvering and tweaking, Greene County approved its 2012 budget. To make the numbers work, a number of programs including contributions to University of Missouri Extension, the Child Advocacy Center, and Court Appointed Special Advocates lost funding. Among the biggest new costs: $699,000 for elections, $260,000 for increased health-insurance costs, and $250,000 to house inmates in other county jails.
  • OzarksFirst: Fort Leonard Wood soldiers headed to Afghanistan. About 120 military police of Fort Leonard Wood’s 463rd Military Police Company are on their way to Afghanistan for a year’s deployment.
  • News-Leader: Nixa board approves magnet school. The Nixa Board of Education on Thursday unanimously approved a new magnet school called the John Thomas School of Discovery.   • KSMU: Financial planning available to college students. Missouri State University has created a financial-planning program for students to help preventing them from defaulting on their student loans.
  • KY3: Ozarks woman spearheading effort to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer. Charisse Cameron has started the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to inform people that the deadly cancer receives the least amount of research dollars from the U.S. government.
