Daily brief (9/4): Top picks from the Springfield media

After scattered showers today, the Ozarks will experience a much-needed cool-down.

Today will be partly sunny, with a high of 77. A north wind with gusts of up to 26 mph will help cool the air, and there’s a 40 percent chance of rain before 4 p.m.

Tonight will drop to 52 before rising to 72 on Labor Day. Tomorrow will be sunny and nice for the Labor Day parade, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. in Springfield.

Today’s picks

  • News-Leader: Springfield residents identify top traffic concerns. Among the areas citizens would like to see improved: Republic Road at Campbell Avenue, and the Battlefield Road crossover at U.S. Highway 65.
  • KSPR: Low lake levels may cause trouble for boaters. On Stockton Lake, lake levels are 4 feet below normal, and other area lakes are down as well.
  • KY3: Freeman Hospital in Joplin adding rooms. Freeman Hospital, which did not get hit by the May tornado, is adding 58 rooms to meet demand.
