There’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today. Chances increase to 40 percent this evening, with partly cloudy skies and a low of 72.

Tomorrow will be hotter, with a high of 95, and rain chances will be 30 percent. Saturday will be clear but still hot, with a high of 92.

  • OzarksFirst: Missourians scammed out of $2.5 million. The Missouri attorney general’s office estimates that Missourians have lost almost $2.5 million to fraud and scams for the first six months of this year. The office has received more than 38,000 inquiries from consumers during that period.
  • News-Leader: Raising the hotline question. A civil lawsuit filed against the Republic School District raises the question of when school counselors must report abuse claims to the state.
  • KSPR: Osage Beach considering smoking ban. A summer survey reveals 74 percent of respondents would support smoking ban in restaurants in Osage Beach. The city’s board of aldermen meets at 6:30 tonight in the board room of City Hall to discuss the issue.
  • KY3: Ava police officer searches for owner of Joplin love letter. Ava police officer Brenda Sellers found a letter from 1965 written by a soldier to his love and is trying to return the letter to its owner.
