Daily brief (7/20): Top picks from the Springfield media

HotThe heat advisory for the Ozarks will remain in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday. The first hint of rain doesn’t enter the forecast until Sunday.

Today will be another hot one, with sunny skies and a high of 98. Heat indices will top the 100-degree mark. The rest of the week will be more of the same.

Today’s picks

  • KY3: Last days to sign up for mortgage assistance program. The federal Emergency Homeowners Loan Program allows those people 90 days behind or more on their mortgage to receive a zero-interest loan to help. Deadline to sign up is July 22. (Other coverage: OzarksFirst)
  • News-Leader: Forsyth could face state audit. Dozens of city residents have signed a petition to have the state audit the city, contending the parks tax has not been used to build ball fields, as promised.
  • KSPR: 60/65 ramp closing for bridge work. The northbound-to-eastbound ramp at U.S. Highways 60 and 65 will be closed today and Thursday for bridge work.
  • KSMU: Missouri’s obesity rate is 11th in the nation. Almost a third — 30.3% — of all Missourians are obese, about double its rate from 1995. The study was conducted by Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
