Daily brief (4/23): Top picks from the Springfield media

More storms are on the way today and tomorrow. There’s a 70 percent chance of precipitation today, and a high of 66 is expected.

Ozarkers reported large hail and much rain from last night’s storm (Photo galleries of last night’s storms are also available at the News-Leader and KY3). A flash flood watch remains in effect for the area.

Today’s picks

  • News-Leader: Stormwater projects depend on tax. Greene County voters will decide in August whether to renew the 3/8-cent park tax, which has also been used to improve stormwater drainage in the city.
  • OzarksFirst [KOLR/KSFX]: Fire forces evacuation of downtown apartment building. Hundreds of residents were evacuated from Stillwell Columns on Campbell Avenue after a fire broke out on the fifth floor. (Other coverage: KSPR, News-Leader)
  • KY3: Mother praying for missing couple. Kay Simmons lives behind her son, Russell Porter, and his wife, Rebecca, in Willard. The couple have been missing since Sunday, and authorities call the disappearance suspicious. (Other coverage: News-Leader, OzarksFirst)
