Daily brief (2/12): Top picks from the Springfield media

sunnyThe break from winter has begun.

Today will be sunny, with a high of 48. And the weather will continue to improve tomorrow, with a high in the 50, and highs in the 60s possible next week.

Today’s picks:

  • News-Leader: Advocate for the disabled remembered. Friends and family remembered Greg Greven, 42, who was killed in a van fire Thursday night. Greven chaired the Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights and Community Relations, and he represented Springfield on the Governor’s Council on Disability. (Other coverage: KY3, OzarksFirst, KSPR)
  • OzarksFirst [KOLR/KSFX]: After the snow: A costly cleanup for Ozarks schools. For many already strapped districts, the bill for snow cleanup is running into the tens of thousands of dollars.
  • KY3: Home audits can show how to cut heating bills. Utility companies and others can examine your house to show where you may be losing heat — and money.
  • KSMU: Council of Churches of the Ozarks to host interfaith gathering. The forum, planned for 3 p.m. Feb. 19 at the council’s headquarters, is designed to educate people about different faiths. The event is free and open to the public.
