Daily brief (2/3): Top picks from the Springfield media

Bitterly coldThe snow may be done falling, but the temperatures aren’t.

Today will begin with subzero temperatures. It will be sunny but very cold, with a high of 18. Wind-chill values will be as low as -14.

Tonight will be mostly clear with a low of 2. Though the wind will die down, wind-chill values will still dip below zero.

Many schools, including Springfield, Branson, Nixa, Ozark, and Willard, are closed today. Missouri State University will not have classes; Drury University day school at the main campus is in session.

Snow and ice still cover many roads, so drivers need to be careful. Slush may have refrozen.

  • News-Leader: Health care repeal fails in the Senate: Sen. Roy Blunt voted for the repeal, while Sen. Claire McCaskill voted against it.
  • OzarksFirst [KOLR/KSFX]: Some see housing market recovering in Springfield. Though home sales are down from last year, real-estate agents believe the market has bottomed out and is beginning to pick up.
