Daily brief (12/5): Top picks from the Springfield media

Partly sunnyToday’s weather will be a repeat performance of yesterday’s: Partly sunny, with highs hitting about 35.

There’s a break on the horizon, though. Temperatures should be back into the 50s by midweek.

Today’s picks:

  • News-Leader: Distribution center in Republic promises jobs. A 400,000-square-foot distribution center for McLane will have about 300 workers, company officials estimate.
  • KY3: Farmers concerned about impact of proposed food-safety changes. A bill making its way through the U.S. Senate has some farmers concerned about what those changes — the most comprehensive since 1938 — would mean for them.
  • OzarksFirst (KOLR/KSFX): Strafford plans to build new firehouse. Fire chief Fred Osbourn says the money to fund the new firehouse won’t be coming from a new tax designated for firefighters’ salaries.
  • KSPR: New $12 million Branson bridge opening. A bridge spanning Lake Taneycomo connecting Branson and Hollister has opened, but some worry about the coming traffic jams as a neighboring bridge closes for repairs.
