Daily brief (12/2): Top picks from the Springfield media

Today will be mostly sunny and a little bit warmer, with a high of about 51. Colder temperatures are on the way this weekend, though, with highs expected to dip back toward the freezing mark on Sunday.

Today’s picks:

  • OzarksFirst (KOLR/KSFX): Job fair today at Fort Leonard Wood. About 20 employers will be at the fort’s National Guard Armory in Building 986 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The event is open to the public.
  • News-Leader: Steelman in for U.S. Senate run. Former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman has announced her attention to run against U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill in 2012.
  • KY3: Police chief mulls search for three missing women. Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams is weighing whether a search under the Cox South Hospital parking garage on Bradford Parkway would provide any answers to what happened to Stacy McCall, Suzi Streeter, and Streeter’s mom, Sherill Levitt.
  • KSMU: Missouri senators disagree over how to renew Bush tax cuts. Sen. Kit Bond believes all of the cuts should be renewed; Sen. Claire McCaskill would like to see the cuts for the wealthiest Americans removed.
  • KY3: Homeless students are growing challenge for Springfield district. The Springfield School District is seeing an increasing number of students dealing with homelessness.
