Daily brief (11/11): Top picks from the Springfield media

Happy Veterans Day! Missouri State University is hosting a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. today and a special Taps ceremony on campus. A Veterans Day parade is also planned for 11 a.m. today in downtown Branson.

OzarksFirst (KOLR/KSFX) and KY3 have lists of ceremonial and honorary events from around the region for today.

The rain moves in today, but it will remain unseasonably warm, with a high of 71 expected.

  • News-Leader: Southwest 2 power plant dedicated. City Utilities of Springfield dedicated its new $698 million coal-fired power plant Wednesday, which is expected to help power the city through 2020 or 2022.
  • OzarksFirst (KOLR/KSFX): Neighbors wary of plan to raise Bull Shoals Lake’s levels. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants to raise the lake’s levels another five feet, but some people worry about the potential impact.
  • KSPR: State putting together parcels to expand Missouri Highway 13. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission needs some land from 53 property owners to expand the busy highway in Stone County.
  • KY3: State senator wants to amend Proposition B. Newly elected Sen. Mike Parson of Bolivar will propose changes to some of the limits in the petition-driven legislation passed by voters on Nov. 2.
