Daily brief (10/23): Top picks from the Springfield media

A chance of thunderstorms and showers lingers over the weekend, but the high temperature will be mild, in the low 70s.

Today’s picks:

  • Election: News-Leader: Outside groups spend the most in Blunt, Carnahan race. Outside groups have spent $11.3 million thus far, more than the $7.26 million spent by Republican Roy Blunt and the $7.16 million from Democrat Robin Carnahan in the race for Missouri’s Senate seat.
  • OzarksFirst (KOLR/KSFX): Chadwick School District asks voters to approve ballot issue. The district, which has increased from 195 students to 250, is asking for approval of a $350,000 bond issue. The proposed issue would not result in a new tax.
  • KSPR: Bolivar domestic-violence shelter expands. The House of Hope, which serves victims in Polk, Dallas, Cedar, Dade, and Hickory counties, has secured a $250,000 donation.
  • News-Leader: Rogersville gardens feed needy, stock food pantries.
