Daily brief (10/14): Top picks from the Springfield media

I should just copy yesterday’s eat-lunch-outside forecast: Sunny, clear, with a high about 70. And the highs are expected to edge into the mid-70s as we move into the weekend.

Today’s picks:

  • KY3: Emerson lays off 250 in Lebanon. The company, which makes air-conditioner compressors at the plant, hopes the layoffs will be temporary.
  • OzarksFirst (KOLR/KSFX): Arkansas fiberglass company adding jobs. Fishing Holdings plans to add 100 people to its Flippin, Ark., plant.
  • KSMU: Missouri a national leader in rehabilitation for the blind. The Rehabilitation Services for the Blind helped more than 500 Missourians find or keep jobs in 2009.
  • News-Leader: Tracing the Trail of Tears through Greene County. Saturday, the Greene County Commission and the Greene County Historic Sites Board will dedicate a portion of the Trail of Tears as part of a four-year effort rediscovering the trail’s route through the county.
